Tottenham fans will love what Chris Sutton said about their Champions League tie with Man City

Tottenham are edging ever closer to being in their new home.

The £1billion stadium complex is ready to host first team competitive football for the first time next week when Spurs take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The new stadium, built on the site of the old White Hart Lane, hosted an U18s clash last weekend, and will see Spurs' legends take on Inter Milan legends in a second test event on Saturday to secure a safety certificate for the new home.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been beset by delays since the start of the season, when it was originally supposed to open.

Why Harry Kane has the advantage over Aguero, Salah and Aubameyang in Golden Boot race

Supporters have grown dismayed by almost a second whole season at Wembley, but with form stuttering of later, there are hopes that moving into the new home will give the club a boost that is much-needed on the pitch.

Just one week after hosting Palace at the new ground in the Premier League, the stadium will play host to a Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City.

And former top-flight striker Chris Sutton believes it could help them out massively against Pep Guardiola's side.

Speaking to the Daily Mail , Sutton said: "Moving home could be the tonic they need after slipping out of the title race.

"The atmosphere will be electric for the Champions League against Manchester City. It would be no surprise if they caused an upset in that game."

The six Spurs academy stars Pochettino called up to train at the new stadium with the first team

Sutton was not the only one to hold that opinion.

Jamie Redknapp said: "The Champions League is where the new stadium effect will come in handy. Their second game there is against Manchester City in the quarter-finals and that will be the night the ground really comes alive."
