Tottenham fans will love Chris Waddle's verdict on Harry Kane to Man United speculation

Tottenham Hotspur legend Chris Waddle has laughed off Roy Keane's comments that Manchester United should try to sign Harry Kane.

The ex-Red Devils captain claimed United should go all out to secure the England captain's signature after a lengthy discussion on Sky Sports about the club's striking options.

In the absence of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford has struggled to carry the goal-scoring burden this season in his first full season as the club's first-choice number nine.

With Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez both allowed to leave in the summer, it's well documented that United are in the market to add another attacker to their ranks.

However, Waddle has dismissed claims that United should pursue a big-money move for Kane.

The Spurs striker signed a new six-year contract with the club last year making it incredibly difficult for any of Europe's biggest clubs to take him away from north London.

"It is pretty amusing to hear Roy Keane say that United should sign Harry Kane - I bet there are about 60 managers in Europe who would love to have the Spurs striker leading their forward line," Waddle told The Racing Post.

"It is true that Kane may start thinking about how many medals he will have in his cabinet to look back on it retirement, but at the age of 26, now is not the time. And even if he did, he's in a better place than he would be if he joined United.

"Sure they are a big club but he is not going to be able to turn them into a top-four team single-handed. United don't just need Kane. They need four or five other players as well."
