Tottenham fans start petition demanding club ditch plans to appoint ex-Rangers star Gennaro Gattuso as boss

Furious Tottenham supporters have started a petition demanding their club pull out of talks to appoint former Rangers midfielder Rino Gattuso as manager.

The Italian World Cup winner is the new frontrunner for the vacant job in North London after negotiations with several high-profile managers broke down in recent weeks including Antonio Conte, Erik Ten Hag and, most recently, ex-Roma gaffer Paulo Fonseca.

The Daily Record report that Gattuso has even been offered the job - much to the ire of a significant chunk of the Spurs' fanbase.

Gattuso, now 43, was once involved in a furious clash with then-Spurs coach Joe Jordan during a Champions League tie in 2011 and that, coupled with some of his personal opinions, seem to have made his impending appointment pretty unpopular, with '#NoToGattuso' trending on Twitter overnight.

One supporter has even started an official petition on Change.org, but it remains to be seen whether Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy pays any attention given the protracted and drawn-out nature of his hunt for Jose Mourinho's replacement.

If Gattuso is indeed appointed the Premier League side will be his eighth managerial job in eight years, after brief spells at Sion, Palermo and OFI Crete were followed by two-season reigns at Pisa, Milan and Napoli, with his recent stint at Fiorentina lasting just 22 days due to a fallout with the club's hierarchy.
