Spurs were just moments away from picking up a draw against Liverpool at Anfield, a result that was the least they would have deserved from the match.
Son Heung-min had cancelled out a deflected opener from Mohamed Salah in the first half, and after creating some good chances after half-time it looked as if Spurs would have to be content with a point.
However, Jurgen Klopp's side claimed the victory with a later winner as Roberto Firmino powered home a header from an Andrew Robertson corner.
However, Spurs fans noticed a potential foul that could have seen the goal overturned.
As Robertson began his run-up to deliver the corner Eric Dier, who was marking Liverpool youngster Rhys Williams, was given a push in the back by Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson that sent him sprawling to the floor.
Toby Alderweireld was left trying to cover both the unmarked Williams and Firmino at the back post, with Dier immediately complaining to the referee about the push.
Whether the referee saw the push or not, a VAR check took place and decided that there was no foul in the build up to the goal, handing Liverpool all three points.
Following the final whistle there was a big exchange of words between Jose Mourinho and Klopp, with the Spurs boss revealing what he had said to his counterpart, who was smiling during the exchange.
"I told him the best team lost and he disagreed, but that’s his opinion," Mourinho told Amazon Prime Video. "By the way, if I behaved the same way on the touchline like he does, then I have no chance of staying there and I’m out for a minute. That’s animated?
"Do you want me to take the fourth official board from his hands and see what happens to me? For some reason, I am different."
