Danny Rose made a rare appearance on a Tottenham team sheet on Thursday as the defender was handed a return to action with the club's under-23 side.
Rose, who came through the academy at Spurs and has made over 200 appearances for the North London side, has been frozen out of the first-team picture after falling out of favour with boss Jose Mourinho.
The 30-year-old was left out of Tottenham's 25-man Premier League squad last month.
He was named alongside Jack Clarke and 16-year-old Alfie Devine in Wayne Burnett's starting side to face Derby County in Premier League 2 on Thursday afternoon.
The young Lilywhites are looking to build on a disappointing previous campaign that saw them finish in tenth place, ahead of only Southampton and Wolves.
Fans on Twitter reacted with surprise to Rose's inclusion, with some supporters expressing sympathy for the full-back's situation at Spurs.
@THFCGorezzer : That Rose guy seems familiar.
@ConorJacksonRy1 : Is that who I think it is?
@OwenTHFC_ : Surely that's not Danny Rose.
@electricForest6 : Man I was about to laugh but then realised it really is Danny Rose.
@paulyboym1 : People digging Rose for no reason.
@nolittleboy : If he’s got his right head on then the youngsters will learn from him. Would’ve got into any team in the world at one time and should now be in his prime.
@Daniely79 : Have to feel for Danny Rose this is not right.
@DanW400 : Danny Rose is a club legend, he should not be playing in the under 23 league. Pay off his contract and let him go.
@jamie4872 : If I was a betting man I’d put down Rose to get sent off.
@darrenfoxyfox : Rose making a comeback?
