Tottenham fans noticed what happened when Eric Dier was dropped for 4-0 win over Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur fans have an interesting theory about Sunday's 4-0 win over Burnley.

A brace from Gareth Bale plus goals from Harry Kane and Lucas Moura saw Spurs get their top-four push back on track as they won in the Premier League for just the fourth time since the beginning of December.

The result means the north London outfit have moved to within six points of fourth-placed West Ham United, and crucially play their game in hand against Fulham on Thursday evening.

Speaking after the win, Jose Mourinho admitted he was delighted that his side were able to keep a clean sheet.

"Especially this one, because midweek was, the game started 4-1, so the 4-0 doesn't mean much but good performance from the boys," Mourinho said in his post-match press conference.

"Today was more important, because of course we need the victory. We need three points. We need three points even scoring the winning goal in minute 94, but of course winning the way we did it is even better.

"Good performance, solid performance. Easy...not easy but when you score a goal in minute two or three the situation gets a bit easier.

"To be 3-0 at half-time also important but Burnley is the kind of team that demands the best from you until the last second, because it doesn't matter the result, they go, they go and they go until the end.

"So I'm happy with the result, with the clean sheet, with the three points and the performance was very positive."

That is just the second Premier League clean sheet Spurs have kept since the turn of the year and some fans have spoken about the absence of Eric Dier from the starting XI for it.

Despite playing 90 minutes in last week's 4-0 win over Wolfsberger AC in the Europa League, the England international was dropped to the bench for the visit of the Clarets.

Toby Alderweireld partnered Davinson Sanchez in central defence and Spurs kept another Premier League clean sheet - with the most recent being the 2-0 win over West Brom last month which Dier also didn't start in.

This has prompted fans to suggest the 27-year-old may be the reason for the north London outfit's leaky defence.
