Tottenham fans love Eric Dier's reaction as forgotten man Vincent Janssen makes return

Eric Dier responded with great amusement as Vincent Janssen made a rare appearance in a Tottenham shirt as Spurs beat Brighton on Tuesday.

The Dutch striker was brought in a desperate throw of the dice by Mauricio Pochettino as the team sought a late winner against the Seagulls.

The manager had previously said that Janssen no longer featured in his plans, unsurprisingly given his complete lack of competence in front of goal during his short career in North London.

But with Spurs craving the goal that would keep up their bid to finish third in the Premier League, the Dutch striker was summoned, and his teammate Dier could be seen erupting into a fit of mirth behind him on the bench.

Dire shrieked and slapped his thighs with glee as the substitution was prepared, seemingly unable - or merely unwilling - to contain his joy at the prospect of a run-out for the hapless forward.

Janssen failed to make an impact on the game, just as he has failed to influence English football in any meaningful way since his move from AZ in 2016.

How Tottenham's win over Brighton has affected the Premier League top-four race

The 24 year-old has plundered two (2) Premier League goals in three years at Tottenham, failing to live up to expectations set when he was awarded the Johan Cruyff award for Talent of the Year in his native Netherlands in his final year in the Dutch league.

Janssen scored four goals for former club AZ against PEC Zwolle on his penultimate home appearance for the club before leaving for Spurs, twice the number he has managed in his three paltry seasons since.

Mauricio Pochettino offers Christian Eriksen contract update after Brighton win

Spurs beat Brighton 1-0 thanks to a brilliant late goal from Christian Eriksen as they hung on to third place in the Premier League with three games to play.
