Tottenham fans have noticed that one of their stars has been ignored on international duty

There were mixed fortunes for Erik Lamela and Juan Foyth on Argentina duty this week.

Both players returned to the national set-up after being recalled by Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni this month.

Foyth has only recently come back from an ankle injury and has been chosen to start both of Argentina's friendlies.

In his first minutes of the season he played the full 90 as Argentina drew 2-2 in Germany, beginning as the team's right-back before switching to the right side of a back three.

Foyth started again as right-back as Argentina swept past Ecuador in Alicante, Spain, and had raced into a 3-0 half-time lead and the young defender played 77 minutes as his side ended up winning 6-1.

However, for Lamela it has been a return to the national side without any minutes to his name.

The midfielder was an unused substitute in the match in Germany and was left out of the matchday squad to face Ecuador.

Lamela wasn't the highest profile name to be out of the Argentina set-up though.

Lionel Messi did not feature but that was not because of a decision by Scaloni.

In August Messi was handed a three-month ban from international football after accusing South America's governing body CONMEBOL of "corruption" during the Copa America.
