Tottenham fans have Mauricio Pochettino theory after Zinedine Zidane departure from Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly stepped down as Real Madrid boss and Tottenham supporters believe this could affect their club.

Spurs are currently on the lookout for a new manager after Jose Mourinho was sacked last month.

Ryan Mason took interim charge of the side until the end of the season, while Tottenham continued their search for a permanent replacement.

football.london understands that Spurs have identified their top candidate for the role, but there are some complications because an agreement with their parent club is yet to be reached.

Former manager Mauricio Pochettino was linked with the vacant role earlier in the week, but as things stand, football.london understands he is not a candidate.

However, that could change depending on Paris Saint-Germain's situation with Pochettino.

Spurs fans have been reacting to the news of Zidane 's departure, via Fabrizio Romano, and think the news could impact their future.

Pochettino spoke glowingly about his time in N17 following his exit and even hinted at a sensational return one day.

"It was an amazing journey that finished the way no one wanted it to finish," he told BT Sport (via Sky Sports ).

"But deep in my heart, I am sure our paths will cross again. From the day I left the club, my dream is to be back one day and to try to finish the work we didn't finish. We were so closing to winning the Premier League and Champions League.

"But of course I am looking forward to moving on and I am so motivated for the next project.

"But deep inside I want to go back because the fans are so special. Maybe in five years, maybe in 10 years, but before I die I want to manage Tottenham.

"I want to feel what it means to win one title with Tottenham because the fans are amazing, all the love we received was amazing and that is a good opportunity to pay back all the love they showed us from day one."
