Tottenham fans have Gareth Bale question as Jose Mourinho names starting XI for Crystal Palace

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting to Jose Mourinho's latest team choice ahead of the London derby against Crystal Palace this afternoon.

Spurs are looking to go three points ahead of Liverpool with a victory at Selhurst Park, before the Reds take on Fulham later today.

With Chelsea slipping up away at Everton on Saturday evening, it's a good chance for Jose Mourinho's side.

They take on a Palace side who were comfortable winners over West Bromwich Albion last weekend - with Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke both in fine form for Roy Hodgson's men.

However, the Eagles have won just one game at Selhurst Park this season, as they welcome an in-form Spurs side to their home ground.

They will also welcome 2,000 supporters back to the stadium, as Mourinho's side have their first taste of playing away from home with fans in attendance, this season.

As expected, with a host of players being rested in Thursday night's win against Antwerp in the Europa League, Mourinho has named a strong side for the game.

The line-up is as follows: Lloris (C), Aurier, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon, Hojbjerg, Sissoko, Ndombele Bergwijn, Son, Kane.

However, there's no place in the matchday squad for Gareth Bale - much to the bemusement of Spurs supporters on Twitter.

Since re-joining Spurs over the summer, the majority of Bale's play time has been in the Europa League.

The Wales international has only made three appearances in the Premier League since his return to England - scoring the one goal.

Speaking in BT Sport's coverage of Spurs' win over Antwerp on Thursday evening, Glenn Hoddle questioned Bale's current physical state.

“By now, I would expect him to be ahead of where he is, he looks fragile and tentative when he goes in and when it is tight,” Hoddle said.

“He still seems unsure of his body, he hasn’t quite got that change of pace. It is getting there but whether he gets it back again is the big question mark, and that was the big risk bringing Gareth back to Tottenham.

“But I feel there is more to come, which will elevate Tottenham’s performance as well but it just feels like he is on the back foot.

“I found it very strange that Jose wanted to take him and Vinicius off at that point, …. just give him another 10 or 15 minutes because that might have given him that confidence to go out and really perform and we haven’t seen that yet.”
