Tottenham fans have a Christian Eriksen theory over Steven Bergwijn as shirt number is confirmed

It is now official, and Steven Bergwijn is a Tottenham Hotspur player.

The Dutch international has made the move from PSV Eindhoven to Spurs, with the player joining on a five-year deal after signing a contract with the north London side until 2025.

Tottenham confirmed the deal this morning, after reportedly agreeing a fee of £25.6m plus add-ons for the 22-year-old, who travelled to London to finalise the transfer and complete a medical on Tuesday evening.

And the fact that Bergwijn has been assigned the number 23 shirt worn by Eriksen during his time at Tottenham has not been lost on some fans.

Indeed, the decision by Tottenham to give the former PSV man the shirt number vacated by the Danish international has got some fans talking on social media.

Bergwijn has spoken of his delight at completing the move to Tottenham, where he will work with Jose Mourinho.

The Dutchman has nine caps at senior international level, and has impressed in the Eredivisie, winning three league titles with PSV.

In total, he has made 149 appearances for the Dutch side, scoring 31 goals, including 15 last season.
