Tottenham fans excited after transfer chief Steve Hitchen is ‘spotted in Italy’ amid Milan Skriniar links

Tottenham fans are growing increasingly excited after the club’s technical performance director was reportedly spotted in Italy amid talks they are closing in on a deal to sign Milan Skriniar.

Reports in Italy claim that Spurs are interested in signing the Inter Milan centre back, with the club apparently prepared to pay a fee in the region of £45million (€50m) for the Slovakian international.

Jose Mourinho is believed to be a long-time admirer of the 25-year-old, with Standard Sport having reported back in 2018 that he, while at Manchester United, was interested in signing the Inter Milan defender.

Mourinho would leave the club the following year, but while United maintained interest in Skriniar they would eventually sign England international Harry Maguire instead.

But as reported by Standard Sport this month, Tottenham are keen to add a defender and a striker to their squad having recently secured deals with Real Madrid for Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.

And on Wednesday, pictures emerged on Twitter reportedly showing Steve Hitchen – who was promoted from chief scout earlier this year – with a delegate from the Serie A side.

Cue widespread excitement from Tottenham fans.

One fan tweeted: “Steve Hitchen will now be a legend if we sign Skriniar”.

While another added: “I am in Spurs heaven”.
