A small number of Tottenham fans clashed with stewards after Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa as supporters were left furious at their treatment by the club.
With fans returning to White Hart Lane for the first time since the failed plans to join the European Super League and the news that Harry Kane reportedly wants to leave the club, Wednesday night’s game was always likely to be emotionally charged.
And if the performance from Ryan Mason’s side wasn’t enough to anger supporters, after the final whistle, fans were asked to remain in their seats so the Spurs players could do a lap of honour – which is customary at most clubs for the final home game of the season.

However, after half an hour, a tannoy announcement was made thanking them for their support and asking them to be safe on their way out of the ground.
Some of the furious fans tried to get closer to the pitch to express their frustrations towards chairman Daniel Levy and the club but were held back by stewards.
Spurs fan George Achillea posted several videos on his social media platforms expressing his frustrations at the situation at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
In one, he said: “Ridiculous. Here’s a fun story. They told us to sit here and wait here patiently while the players are going to come back out and at least show some respect to the fans. To show some decency and some respect.

“What they have done is had us sitting here for half an hour and then the guy on the tannoy has just announced ‘thanks for your support this season. Be safe on your way out. Socially distance’.
“Where is the decency in that? We are run as a stadium, not a club. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium FC is what we are.”
Before joining in with the chants of ‘60 quid, you’re having a laugh’ and then returning to the camera to add: “What a joke. A joke.”
At the final whistle, an emotional Kane did a lap of honour on his own as reports continue that he wants to leave the club this summer.

The England striker was given a warm reception from supporters, with chants of ‘Harry Kane, we want you to stay’ ringing out around Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And it was Kane who was leading a group of players when they finally did come out and do a lap of honour to the small number of fans who had remained long after the final whistle.
The atmosphere at the game was described as ‘toxic’, as chants of ‘we want Levy out’ were sung by supporters.
