Tottenham fan points out the Toby Alderweireld moment which matched van Dijk's in Liverpool loss

There were two key moments which proved to be turning points in Tottenham Hotspur's defeat at Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The first of which was what has been described as a brilliant piece of defending from Virgil van Dijk as Moussa Sissoko spurned a glorious chance to give the visitors the lead inside the final 10 minutes at Anfield.

A fine passing move allowed Spurs to break Liverpool's press and left the Dutchman facing a 1 v 2 situation. He opted to pretty much allow the Frenchman a free shot at goal as he blocked off a passing lane to Son Heung-min.

Sissoko was forced to take a shot and blazed high and wide. That piece of defending was hailed by Sky Sports' co-commentator Gary Neville.

"Young defenders, you must watch Virgil van Dijk," Neville said on air. "He picks the lesser of two evils.

"Sissoko can have it on his left foot, not letting him pass to Son. He can't win it, you have a choice: which of these do I want to have the shot? It's Sissoko. Really good defending."

The other key moment came in injury time as a mistake from Hugo Lloris resulted in the Reds claiming all three points and moving back to the top of the Premier League table.

Defender Toby Alderweireld has been credited with the own goal after the Spurs captain pushed the ball on to him and there was little to no time for the Belgian defender to adjust his feet.

However, one Lilywhites supporter has pointed out on Reddit that Alderweireld produced an almost identical piece of defending to van Dijk early in the second half and is perhaps wondering why the same praise hasn't been dished out.

As seen via the video clip, Alderweireld also finds himself in a 1 v 2 disadvantage but prevents a goal by making a superb block to deny Mohamed Salah.
