Tottenham 'fail in Brendan Rodgers bid' as they step up search for Jose Mourinho's successor

Tottenham have reportedly failed in a bid to try to convince Brendan Rodgers to leave Leicester City and become their new manager.

Spurs are on the hunt for Jose Mourinho's successor after he was sacked last week following a disappointing campaign in North London.

And although Ryan Mason has stepped in on a temporary basis, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is keen to appoint another big name to lead the team forward going into next season.

Rodgers has massively impressed since taking charge of the Foxes in 2019, and looks set to lead them to Champions League qualification, with his side currently sitting in third place in the table.

Levy is known to be a big admirer of Rodgers, and attempted to appoint him in 2012 before eventually going for Andre Villas-Boas.

And according to the Daily Mail Levy has again been unsuccessful in trying to lure the Northern Irishman to his club over the last few days.

It is believed that Rodgers is fully committed to Leicester, and is relishing the opportunity to lead the side into Europe next season if, as expected, they manage to finish in the top four.

He is also thought to have reservations about working under Levy, and does not feel he would be able to have as much of a say over matters such as transfers as he does at Leicester.

Rodgers' rejection is a big blow for Spurs, and comes as another one of their main targets, Julian Nagelsmann, agreed to join Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig at the end of the season.

It is not clear who Levy will target next, but among the front-runners are thought to be Ajax's Erik ten Hag and former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

In the meantime, Spurs will try to end the campaign strongly under Mason to keep alive their slim hopes of Champions League qualification, and they take on bottom side Sheffield United on Sunday.
