Tottenham face huge transfer dilemma as Dani Ceballos explains why Gareth Bale is struggling

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Thursday, January 21.

Mourinho and Levy face summer conundrum

Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho, alongside owner Daniel Levy, faces the challenge of decreasing the number of non-homegrown players within Spurs' squad this summer.

When it came to the task of selecting the 17 non-homegrown players to feature in this season's Europa League squad, Paulo Gazzaniga, Joe Rodon and Gedson Fernandes were all forced to miss out, meaning Mourinho may have some tough decisions to make ahead of selecting his squad for the knockout phase.

Spurs need to address their current issues but the different regulations in both the Premier League and European competition make the situation difficult.

In a bid to avoid this problem being repeated, Spurs will be forced into cutting their cloth as far as their non-homegrown players are concerned this summer. With that in mind, football.london's Rob Guest has picked out six players who could be moved on this summer in an attempt to solve this particular problem.

February fixtures confirmed

The dates of Spurs' February Premier League fixtures were confirmed yesterday afternoon, as the Premier League announced that every fixture across the league would be screened live on TV in the UK.

In February, Mourinho's side face Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Manchester City, West Ham United and Burnley, meaning they face a mixed bag of opponents.

All six games will be screened live on TV, although which the broadcaster of each game is yet to be announced.

Ceballos explains why Bale is struggling

Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos believes Gareth Bale has failed to have the impact on his return to Tottenham that he would have hoped for because of the physical nature of the Premier League.

Bale returned to Spurs on loan for the duration of the 2020/21 season from Real Madrid back in September but he has struggled to live up to the hype that greeted his return to north London.

But for Ceballos, who is also on loan from Madrid, he believes the physicality of the league has had a big impact on the Welshman's performances.

Ceballos, as quoted by the Mirror, said: "When Bale was here seven years ago the league was completely different.

"Thomas Partey and Fabinho for instance, they knew the Premier League was a very physical league, but when you start to play you realise it's twice as physical.

"It is difficult to adapt quickly. Maybe that's what's happening to Gareth."
