Nuno Espirito Santo's emergence as the new front-runner for the still vacant Tottenham Hotspur job hasn't gone down well with many of the club's fans.
The former Wolves boss is now the leading contender for the role during the club's exhaustive search for a new boss, which has seen moves for former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and the ex-Chelsea manager Antonio Conte prove unsuccessful.
Talks with the former Roma coach Paulo Fonseca - who has ironically been replaced by Jose Mourinho in the Italian capital after he was sacked by Spurs - and ex-Milan, Napoli and briefly Fiorentina boss Gennaro Gattuso broke down last week, with Spurs quickly deciding to break off talks with Gattuso after many of the club's fans objected to his appointment.
Supporters took issue with some historical comments Gattuso had made around issues such as racism, same-sex marriage and women in football, with the hashtag #NoToGattuso trending on Twitter in the UK.
On Thursday night, #NoToNuno was also trending as the Portuguese closed in on replacing his fellow countryman Mourinho in the Spurs hotseat.
Although the tweets objecting to Nuno's prospective appointment had nothing to do with anything he had previously said or done personally, many fans have been objecting to what they see as a lack of ambition from the Spurs hierarchy in approaching the former Valencia and Porto boss, who left Wolves at the end of last season.
Nuno guided Wolves to the Championship title in his first season in charge in 2017-18, before back-to-back seventh place finishes in the Premier League in the following two campaigns, as well as an FA Cup semi-final in 2018-19 and a Europa League quarter-final in 2019-20.
However last season he and Wolves found life a lot tougher, and they ultimately finished 13th in the table in a campaign in which they often struggled to score goals following the sale of Diogo Jota to Liverpool and the serious head injury suffered by Raul Jimenez at Arsenal in November.
New Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici has been key to guiding the search for a new boss alongside chairman Daniel Levy, and both are said to have been impressed with Nuno's plans for the club.
The Portuguese has also strongly been linked with the still vacant roles at Everton and Crystal Palace this summer, and held talks with the Eagles earlier this month.
The south Londoners were in talks with former Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre over becoming their new manager but they are now believed to have broken down, while Everton are still mulling over a move for ex-Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.
