Tottenham eyeing Barcelona star as Harry Kane replacement amid Manchester City transfer rumours

Tottenham Hotspur are apparently eyeing a move for Barcelona forward Martin Braithwaite should Harry Kane leave the club this summer.

The England captain has been linked with a move away from the club throughout the summer having apparently made clear his desire to leave.

Manchester City remain the favourites to secure his signature but as yet a deal has not been completed despite Kane having missed his return to Spurs following his holiday after Euro 2020.

With his future remaining unclear, Spurs have reportedly been sounding out a number of potential attacking recruits that could fill the vacancy within the frontline should Kane secure a move away.

Names such as Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Dusan Vlahovic have been mentioned, with Fabio Paratici having made progress on a deal for the former with the agreement of a fee with the Serie A champions.

Now, a new name appears to be on the club’s shortlist in the form of Barcelona’s Martin Braithwaite.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Danish forward is being allowed to depart the Camp Nou this summer and he is being considered by Spurs. Premier League rivals West Ham United are also apparently interested in the striker but he has requested more time to decide on his future, with a move to north London being preferential for Braithwaite.

Should Spurs complete a move for the striker, it would signal a return to English football following his disappointing spell with Middlesbrough.

The now 30-year-old joined the club in 2017 from Toulouse and only managed to score nine goals in 40 matches in all competitions for the second-tier outfit before joining Elche.

Braithwaite impressed in Spain before sealing a surprise switch to the Camp Nou, where he has netted on just eight occasions in 53 outings.

The 56-cap Danish international still has three years remaining on his contract with the Catalan giants.
