Tottenham eye Memphis Depay after 'agreeing' £30m Steven Bergwijn sale

Tottenham are looking to snap up Memphis Depay this summer as he enters the final year of his contract at Barcelona.

Spurs are already trimming their squad with an agreement in place that will see Steven Bergwijn depart in a deal worth £30million while Antonio Conte does not want to see his squad weakened. The Italian is in his first summer transfer window at the club and is seeing his wishes fulfilled.

The former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager was furious over January after denouncing Daniel Levy's transfer plans, despite the double signing of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, who have proved successful. Conte made it clear he would need major reinforcements in the summer - and the club have worked quickly.

They have already pulled off two top deals in signing Yves Bissouma and Richarlison from Brighton and Everton respectively, despite widespread interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal in their targets.

And Spurs are not looking to slow down with a move for Barcelona star Depay now being eyed. According to Sport, the Blaugrana are happy to sell the Dutchman to bolster their coffers amid a difficult financial year.

Tottenham are interested and his name has been mentioned amid the ongoing negotiations for Clement Lenglet, who is closing in on a loan move to north London. Depay would be open to a Spurs transfer due to the face they are in the Champions League.

With one year left on his Barca contract, the Spanish club are looking to cash in rather than lose the player for nothing. With Ousmane Dembele likely to stay and Raphinha being eyed, Depay might find himself drop down the pecking order as well, meaning a move away this summer might be the best solution for everyone.

Whether the former United star would be able to command a spot in Tottenham's starting XI remains to be seen, though, after already signing Richarlison. The Brazilian was bought for £60m from Everton last week.

However, with Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Kulusevski already in attack, there needs to be some space made. But that appears to already be in the bag with Bergwijn set to depart for £30m.

Ajax have pulled ahead of Everton to snap up the 24-year-old, who will now return to his homeland the Netherlands after two and a half years in the Premier League. Bergwijn's departure will free up space for his countryman Depay to make the move, should Spurs pursue the 28-year-old further.
