Tottenham eye former Liverpool goalkeeper transfer as Jose Mourinho takes new job

Here are your Tottenham morning headlines for Wednesday, May 5.

Tottenham eye Gulacsi

Tottenham are said to be eyeing a move for RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

BILD say Tottenham are considering pulling off an £11million deal for the Hungarian stopper with uncertainty over Hugo Lloris' future at the club.

Lloris is out of contract in the summer of 2022 and Spurs could look to sell him this summer to make sure they get money for the Frenchman with a new deal looking uncertain at this stage, despite rumours of a renewal offer.

Gulacsi is a 30-year-old Hungary international who has been with Leipzig since his 2015 move from RB Salzburg, going on to make 176 league appearances.

The goalkeeper was released by Liverpool in 2013 after going five years, plus another year on loan before that permanent spell without making a league apearance.

Can Spurs Catch Chelsea Or Leicester?

Mourinho rocks up at Roma

Italian side Roma have confirmed that Jose Mourinho has been appointed as the club's next head coach from the start of the 2021/22 season.

Dismissed as Tottenham boss just over two weeks ago, the 58-year-old has made a swift return to the game after penning a three-year contract with the Giallorossi.

Earlier on Tuesday, it was confirmed that current head coach Paulo Fonseca would part the Serie A club at the end of the current season having previously joined them in 2019 from Shakhtar Dontesk.

However, it didn't take long for a replacement to be named with Roma confirming Mourinho in the hotseat from next campaign, 15 days after his time at Tottenham came to an early end.

Speaking to the club's official website following the announcement, Mourinho stated that Roma's ambitions match his and that the club's fanbase convinced him to accept the job.

“Thank you to the Friedkin family for choosing me to lead this great club and to be part of their vision,” said the experienced boss.

“After meetings with the ownership and Tiago Pinto, I immediately understood the full extent of their ambitions for AS Roma. It is the same ambition and drive that has always motivated me and together we want to build a winning project over the upcoming years.

“The incredible passion of the Roma fans convinced me to accept the job and I cannot wait to start next season."

Son talks Mourinho

Son Heung-min has stated that it was "so sad" Jose Mourinho didn't leave Tottenham after tasting success with the club.

“It’s always sad if someone loses the day job,” he told TV3 Sport (via TEAMtalk). “Having worked with him for 17 or 18 months, it’s been up and down, it’s been good and sometimes we’ve been not so good.

“I think for me and my memory he will still be one of the best managers in the world.

“It’s just so sad that he didn’t go with success. It was really sad because he is the guy that wins everything.

“It was the only team that he wasn’t successful, so I feel really sorry about this kind of thing.”
