Tottenham eye Brazilian wonderkid as Gareth Bale aims subtle dig at Jose Mourinho

Here are your Tottenham morning headlines for Tuesday, May 4.

Spurs eye Brazilian talent

Tottenham are said to be hoping to land Corinthians youngster Rodrigo Varanda this summer.

According to TNT Sports, there has indeed been an approach for the 18-year-old, and ESPN Brasil has backed that up by saying Tottenham have been in touch.

Varanda, a striker, is yet to renew his contract, which expires in 2022, and ESPN Brasil report there has been very little talk of a renewal.

That's where Spurs could step in, though it's pretty clear Varanda would be a player for the future given he is still only 18 and has only managed one goal and one assist in nine games this season.

Bale's Mourinho dig

Gareth Bale has appeared to aim a gently dig to former Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was sacked by Spurs recently having failed to get the most out of his talented squad, one that included Real Madrid loanee Bale, who has made just eight Premier League starts this season.

On Sunday, Bale showed what he can do with a start, scoring a hat-trick to help Tottenham see off bottom club Sheffield United with a 4-0 home win.

And after the game, the Welshman appeared to send a thinly-veiled dig toward Mourinho and the style of football the experience Portuguese boss implemented in north London.

“(It's) the fact that we’re more on the front foot, we’re closer to the goal and you’re able to score more," he told Sky Sports.

“We’re playing football the Tottenham way.”

Manager search update

Ralf Rangnick and Rafa Benitez have reportedly emerged as candidates to succeed Jose Mourinho as Tottenham's new manager.

The Portuguese was sacked last week in the wake of the news surrounding the controversial proposed European Super League.

Multiple managers have recently ruled themselves out of the role, with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag signing a new contract with the Dutch giants, tying himself to the club until 2023 - ensuring any rumour of the Dutchman taking over at Tottenham is quashed.

According to The Mail, chairman Daniel Levy has prioritised experience over potential, which would appear to lessen the chances of Brighton's Graham Potter and former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe - both of whom have been touted for the role.

Tottenham's original three-man shortlist quickly crumbled after RB Leipzig's Julian Nagelsmann opted for the allure of Bayern Munich, while Brendan Rodgers insisted his future lies at Leicester with Ten Hag remaining at Ajax.

It is unclear how quickly Daniel Levy is aiming to appoint a new boss, with former player Ryan Mason currently at the helm - making him the youngest manager in Premier League history in the process.
