Quiet transfer window explained

Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy had a quiet month in terms of transfers during the mid-season window, with no new arrivals and three first-team departures - one of which was the early termination of Gedson Fernandes' loan stint.

As explained by our man Rob Guest, it was never Mourinho's plan to be active midway through the season and that stance was regularly reiterated - while it was always going to be quiet as the football landscape continues to cope with the coronavirus pandemic.

For Spurs, they were only ever going to look at bringing in players if they could free up space in their squad and raise the necessary finances through those departures.

Where it went wrong for Alli

Dele Alli did not get the January exit he was seeking, with Paris Saint-Germain unable to set-up a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino.

Instead, his exile from Jose Mourinho's plans is likely to continue, his chances of featuring for England at the European Championships are significantly low and there are huge question marks about where his long-term future lies.

His decline all comes down to one particular moment, caught on Amazon's All or Nothing cameras, where he complained about the football being played in the Champions League match against RB Leipzig.

Then came the lockdown last year, where football was halted and, in the 11 months since, Alli has started just once in the Premier League.

Pulisic fires Spurs warning

Chelsea ace Christian Pulisic has fired a warning to Tottenham ahead of the London derby on Thursday, which represents Thomas Tuchel's third match in charge of the Blues.

"It’s a good time to play them coming off a good result for us. We’re feeling confident. We’re really excited. It’s a good chance to make a statement and most importantly really build some momentum.

"We know what a good result against a good team could do for us."
