Tottenham evening headlines as wonderkid signs new deal and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg pursuit stalls

Good evening, Tottenham fans. Here are your Spurs evening headlines for Monday, July 27.

Kane urged to make decision about his future

Harry Kane’s Tottenham future has been the matter of much discussion over the course of this season, with the striker suggesting a failure to meet his expectations could see him leave north London.

Spurs finished the season outside the Champions League spots, with Kane returning from injury after the June restart to finish the season with 18 league goals.

And former England and Arsenal striker Ian Wright has urged the frontman to decide his future sooner rather than later.

Alasdair Gold's Spurs season debrief and the transfer window

“You think that for Tottenham without someone like Harry Kane, they would probably struggle,” Wright told Match of the Day.

“He’s got to start looking at himself and how good he is in respect of what he wants to do.

“A player that has already played in the Champions League final, it’s something you have to say he probably wants to do again. He has to be thinking about his future.”

Kane scored seven of Spurs’ 14 league goals in June and July, and also netted six times in the Champions League group stages.

Saints yet to receive suitable offer for Hojbjerg

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s name is one we’re likely to see a great deal of this summer where Tottenham transfer rumours are concerned.

However, according to the south-coast club’s chief executive, Spurs aren’t all that close to clinching a deal for the midfielder.

Martin Semmens has shed some light on the Dane’s future amid speculation that Tottenham and Everton have been readying bids.

“We have had some offers from teams that have been in the latter stages of the Premier League recently, some pretty good offers, ones that we probably would be open-minded to, but at the moment we don't have the offers from the clubs that seem to be the ones that are all over social media saying Pierre's going to,” Semmens said .

“In reality from our perspective on Pierre, if he wants to move to another club and that club has the money and the ability to buy him, then we will have that discussion.

"But at this point, we have not received an offer like that."

Tanganga commits long-term future to the club

Tottenham are able to breathe a sigh of relief with the knowledge that Japhet Tanganga is sticking around for the long haul.

The young defender, who impressed after making his senior debut under Mauricio Pochettino in September and his Premier League debut under Jose Mourinho in January, had just a year left on his Spurs deal.

However, he has now committed his future to Spurs until 2025 after putting pen to paper on a new contract.

“The young defender has impressed playing across the back line this year in what has been his breakthrough season, having made his senior competitive debut in our EFL Cup tie against Colchester United in September, 2019, before coming into the team for his first Premier League appearance at home to Liverpool in January,” a statement on the Spurs website reads.

The 21-year-old, who had been in Spurs’ academy since he was 10 years old, last featured for the first team in their Champions League exit at the hands of RB Leipzig.

He missed the last few months of the season due to injury but returned to the bench for the North London derby on July 12 and was an unused substitute for the last four games of the season.
