Tottenham evening headlines as wonderkid signs new contract and Ryan Sessegnon decision made

Here are the latest Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Tuesday August 11.

Club contact Jose Mourinho’s staff regarding move for defender

Benfica are interested in signing Jan Vertonghen, according to Portuguese outlet Record.

Vertonghen, 33, called time on an eight-year career at Tottenham after failing to agree a new contract with the club. It has allowed the former Ajax defender to walk away from the club on a free transfer, and now he is attracting interest from Benfica.

The Portuguese giants are eager to secure a left-footed central defender as they look to battle both domestically and in the Champions League.

The report states that Benfica manager Jorge Jesus has reached out to Jose Mourinho’s backroom staff to gain insight into the Belgian defender.

Tottenham academy ace signs new long-term contract as club confirm season-long loan move

Tottenham have confirmed TJ Eyoma has agreed a three-year contract with the club.

Eyoma, 20, made his first-team debut in January 2019 in the FA Cup and has now agreed to stay at the club for a minimum of three more years.

He has already secured a move for next season, and will now join Lincoln City on loan for the upcoming season.

“I’m delighted to return. I learnt a lot last season despite not playing, and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to come here again,” he told Lincoln’s official website.

Fulham make final decision over move for Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon after Premier League return

Fulham vice-chairman and director of football Tony Khan has confirmed the club’s summer plans.

Ryan Sessegnon joined Spurs from Fulham but has struggled to make an impact at the club. It wasn’t until November that he made his Tottenham debut after arriving with a hamstring injury.

There had been tentative talk that he could return to Fulham on loan this summer after the club’s promotion to the Premier League. That has now been dismissed by Khan.

“I am not interested,” he told The Times when asked about a potential deal for Sessegnon.

“Ryan already played for us in the Premier League and he didn’t do enough to keep us in there.

“We get two loans and I can’t be in the business of developing other people’s players when they don’t have time to play them.”
