Here are the Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Friday, May 15.
Spurs chase in-demand Belgian
Tottenham are believed to be one of the clubs interested in Belgian international defender Timothy Castagne.
However, the Atalanta star, who can play at either right or left-back, is also a target of many other sides across Europe, including Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla, according to Italian publication Calciomercato.
The Serie A club, it is claimed, would also demand around €20million (£17.8million) should they decide to sell Castagne, whose contract expires in 2022.
Spurs manager Jose Mourinho is keen to reinforce the right-back position, with both Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters failing to impress.
French striker eyed by Mourinho
Rumoured Tottenham target Serhou Guirassy will leave Amiens this summer, French outlet Le Sport 10 claim.
Bernard Joannin, the French club’s president, said they will have to sell the striker after Amiens suffered relegation when the Ligue 1 season ended early.
Joannin told L’Equipe in France, as reported by Le 11 Amienois: “With Serhou, we have a commitment [to let him go this summer].
"He had important proposals from English clubs [in January], but he wanted to stay to save the club – these were the words he said to me. He wanted to go until the end of the story with his teammates.”
Spurs reportedly sent scouts to watch Guirassy in a 4-4 draw against PSG in March, a game where he scored twice.
The 24 year old hit nine goals in 23 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
Vertonghen to stay at Spurs – for now
Long-serving Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen is looking into extending beyond the end of June to keep him at the club for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.
Football Insider says that the Belgian is expected to sign a short-term extension after Premier League clubs voted to allow players whose contracts expire next month to sign short-term extensions so they can remain with their current team until the season finishes.
Clubs and players have been given until June 23 to finalise their agreements.
Vertonghen, who signed for Spurs in 2012, has kept the door open to remaining in north London, but is still likely to depart on a free transfer when the transfer window opens.
