Tottenham evening headlines as Toby Alderweireld injury takes shine off wonderful Man City win

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Saturday, November 21.

Spurs suffer Alderweireld injury blow

Tottenham moved to the top of the Premier League table after an excellent 2-0 victory over Manchester City, but it might have come at a cost.

Belgium international Toby Alderweireld pulled up in the closing stages of the match and was forced to leave the field in the 81st minute.

Jose Mourinho on worrying Alderweireld update, Lo Celso sub and Kane

The experienced centre-half has been a near ever-present under Jose Mourinho this season, but he may be forced to spend a spell on the sidelines.

“It’s bad. It's a muscular injury in the adductor,” Mourinho told football.london after the match. “The dimension, of course, we don't know, we have to wait, but it's a difficult injury for sure.”

Relive the win over City with our match highlights

Alasdair Gold was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this evening to give the full lowdown from the statement victory.

The football.london Tottenham correspondent chronicled the 2-0 win over City in a live blog, which included plenty of analysis and comment as Son Heung-min and Giovani Lo Celso found themselves on the scoresheet.

“Spurs had the start they craved with a quick free-kick from Hojbjerg met by an instinctive Ndombele turn before he beautifully chipped the ball over the top to Son to score yet another goal against Pep Guardiola's men,” he wrote of the early opener.

“They must sick of the sight of him and you'd think they would have been prepared for him running on to balls over the top.”

Here’s those match highlights in full.

Alderweireld gets a perfect 10 in player ratings

There were strong scores all round as Spurs produced one of the biggest wins of the Jose Mourinho era against his old rival Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.

No starting player scored lower than a six in Alasdair Gold’s player ratings from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Harry Kane and Alderweireld each awarded a nine out of ten.

But it was Alderweireld who received the highest score, with a rare, perfect 10 out of 10 for his influential role in keeping a clean sheet against City’s strong attack.

“Made a superb early challenge to deny Jesus and another on 22 minutes to stop the marauding Brazilian,” Gold wrote.

“It was his clever ball to Kane which set Spurs away for their second goal. Rolled back the years with this performance which was vintage

“Alderweireld but he picked up an injury in the final 10 minutes that he immediately knew had brought the end of his night. Spurs will really miss him if he's out for a while.”
