Tottenham evening headlines as Spurs rival Liverpool for defender and Mourinho delivers verdict

Here are your Tottenham evening headlines for Monday, February 15.

Spurs linked with Botman

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested Tottenham could well circle back to Lille defender Sven Botman this summer.

Romano says Spurs, as well as Liverpool, were interested in a move for the Dutch centre-back in January and that he has 'never been closer' to leaving current club Lille.

"Sven Botman will certainly be a key player in the summer transfers market, but there’s still no agreement with any English club as of today. 'Fake news', agent Bruinenberg comments.

"Tottenham and Liverpool were interested in January but he’s never been close to leave Lille."

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho gives verdict on Gareth Bale display at Man City

Mourinho praises Tanganga

Tottenham have faced fresh criticism in the wake of their 3-0 defeat against Manchester City at the weekend.

But Spurs boss Jose Mourinho chose to reflect on the positives after the game and one of those for him was the performance of Japhet Tanganga.

Brought in for his first Premier League start of the season - and just his eighth appearance in all competitions this season for Spurs - the 21-year-old was singled out by Mourinho for his performance after the game.

“Japhet did very well,” he told the club’s official website.

“He’s a positive – a young guy, an academy guy, a club guy coming into the game and the game, of course, not easy.

“I didn’t feel that he had any problems and that he was in control against good players and a good team, and when the team is not physically well, then minute after minute, you start opening up spaces, not the same recoveries from the midfield players or the centre-backs.

“He had a few situations in the second half, but a complete performance from the kid.”

Sessegnon injury update

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Ryan Sessegnon has provided an update on his thigh injury as he looks to return to action this week for loan club Hoffenheim.

"I'm learning more about myself as a person and as a player," he told Hoffenheim's social media channels.

"It's been a great opportunity. In one word, it's been eventful, because of course I was playing games regularly and I think in most games I was playing well as well, with a few games not so well.

"I think I was more consistently playing well though and then of course the injury happened and I've missed six games now."

On that thigh injury, Sessegnon added: "I'm progressing very well and I think the next time you guys should see me on the pitch will be maybe next week, hopefully in the Europa League."
