Tottenham evening headlines as Spurs face Hojbjerg transfer battle and Willian's wage problem

Here are your Spurs evening headlines for Saturday July 11.

Jenas outlines where things have gone wrong for Spurs

Former Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes that there are obvious reasons for current struggles at the club.

Jose Mourinho’s side were heavily criticised after Thursday’s 0-0 draw away to Bournemouth where his side failed to register a single shot on target.

For Jenas, he thinks that there should be plenty of responsibility put on the players’ shoulders rather than direct criticism at Mourinho.

He told BBC 5Live : “There is a lot of responsibility I put on the players, but I also feel sorry for the players.

“There is also another part of me that thinks, 'Was it just (Mauricio) Pochettino getting more out of these players than anyone else can?'

"Maybe these players are just not as good as we all thought, just managed brilliantly by a man that had the club playing the best football they have ever played.”

Man City join Spurs in race to sign Hojbjerg

Manchester City have reportedly joined the race to sign Spurs transfer target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton in the next transfer window.

Premier League preview: Tottenham v Arsenal

According to transfer expert Duncan Castles , Pep Guardiola’s side could add competition to Spurs in their bid to sign the 24-year-old midfielder.

"This is one that has come as a shock to another Premier League club who have been trying to sign him and a shock to a manager who has had a big rivalry with Pep Guardiola," said Castles.

"I can tell you that Manchester City have moved to try and sign Pierre Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton.”

Former Spurs goalkeeper on Willian transfer rumours

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson has outlined that Willian would prefer to join Spurs rather than any other side at the end of the season.

The winger is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the current campaign and has been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a free transfer.

According to Robinson, the Chelsea man views Spurs as a far more attractive proposition than other potential suitors.

“Willian will not come cheap wages-wise…he’s a player that has a great relationship with Mourinho,” said Robinson .

“If he wants to stay in London and Tottenham was an option for him, you would imagine, from what I know, he wants to join Tottenham and they would be his first choice.

“I do not think it would take long for him to win over the Spurs fans. A lot of Spurs fans would take him with open arms because he is a top-class player.”
