Tottenham evening headlines as Southampton fear Hojbjerg transfer, wonderkid signs new deal

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Sunday, May 23.

Southampton fear losing duo to Spurs amid financial chaos

The suspension of the season and the prospect of playing behind closed doors have affected Southampton’s financial health, and they could be forced into selling key players to recoup funds.

That’s according to a new report in the Sunday Mirror, with suggestions that Spurs-linked duo Danny Ings and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg could be among the players to leave when the transfer window reopens.

Ings, 27, has enjoyed the best Premier League season of his career to date, scoring 15 goals for Saints since making the switch from Liverpool last summer while Højbjerg, 24, has been a mainstay in their midfield, making more than 100 appearances since leaving Bayern Munich in 2016.

Tottenham starlet puts pen to paper on first professional contract

Highly-rated rising star Aaron Skinner has celebrated his 18th birthday by signing his first professional contract at Tottenham.

The academy defender hit the milestone last Sunday and put pen to paper shortly after, having joined Spurs U18 team last November.

Skinner has tied his future to the club after impressing on trial over the past six months, having previously turned heads during Bury’s surprise run to the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals in 2018.

“Buzzing to be able to celebrate my birthday agreeing my first professional contract,” he posted on Instagram

“Thanks to everyone who’s helped me get to this point so far uno who you are.”

Ardilles refutes Pochettino to Newcastle report

Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles has rubbish media reports that he confirmed his Argentinian compatriot Mauricio Pochettino is in talks to succeed Steve Bruce as Newcastle United’s new coach.

It’s been suggested that Newcastle, who could become a major force if their Saudi-backed takeover gets completed, are looking for a big name to replace Bruce at St. James’ Park - and have targeted Pochettino, who was sacked by Spurs last November.

A report in The Mirror quoted Ardilles, confirming his friend Pochettino was in talks with the Magpies, but he’s since taken to social media to refute.

“Never talked to the Daily Mirror,” Ardilles tweeted.

“They are quoting me in an interview with an Argentina paper where I talked very generally about Mauricio prospects.

“I don't know what he is going to do and if I know I won't tell, of course.”
