Tottenham evening headlines as player-plus-cash offer for Hojbjerg and Dele Alli dilemma

Here are your Tottenham evening headlines for Saturday, 20 June.

Alli and Moura will have plenty to prove when they return to action

Tottenham’s attacking quartet of Harry Kane, Erik Lamela, Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn proved effective against Manchester United on Friday night.

And that will give Jose Mourinho plenty to think about , with Dele Alli absent through suspension and Lucas Moura nursing an injury.

Spurs now have depth in attack, and it was Bergwijn who struck in the first half against United to give his side the lead.

Lamela was lively, too, while Kane appeared to be easing his way back to full fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Both Alli and Moura are expected to be available for Spurs’ game against West Ham on Tuesday night.

Aurier responds to Spurs doubters with impressive display

Serge Aurier has had plenty of criticism during his Tottenham career, but he was one of the standout performers against Manchester United on Friday night .

The Ivorian right back perhaps forced himself back into Jose Mourinho’s plans with an accomplished display, both in defence and attack.

Aside from a few nervy moments, there were none of the errors that have plagued Aurier since he joined Spurs.

He kept Marcus Rashford quiet and did his job with minimal fuss, as Tottenham frustrated a United side that were in excellent form before the outbreak of coronavirus.

Mourinho is still expected to be on the lookout for a new right back in the summer, but Aurier did his chances no harm with this performance.

Spurs make players-plus-cash offer for Southampton midfielder

Tottenham have made a bid for Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to journalist Duncan Castles.

Spurs, who were interested in the former Bayern Munich man in January, have reportedly offered cash and players for his services.

Hojbjerg is out of contract in 2021 and has been stripped of the captaincy at Southampton after refusing to sign a new deal.

“Southampton see him as a player they have to sell in this market,” Castles said on the Transfer Window podcast .

“They, I'm told, have three offers so far for the player, none of them are satisfactory, one extremely low at a financial level, and they have an offer of cash plus players in exchange, which I understand has come from Tottenham Hotspur.

“My information is that Jose Mourinho likes Hojbjerg and he sees him as a player obviously with substantial Premier League experience who he can bring into the centre of his midfield, can play a couple of positions in midfield at a relatively low cost, and solves some of the problems he sees in that squad.”
