Here are your Tottenham evening headlines for Thursday July 30.
Hojbjerg wants Spurs move
Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur amid longstanding reports that a north London transfer will take place this summer.
Hojbjerg has refused to sign a new contract with Southampton and has only one year remaining on his current deal. He has told the Saints that he wants to join a bigger club, with Spurs one of the leading options.
Jose Mourinho is keen to upgrade his defensive midfield options, and he views Hojbjerg as an improvement on the current players in the squad, especially with Eric Dier now considered a centre-back.
The £35million price tag is problematic, though Spurs hope that Kyle Walker-Peters, who has spent the last six months on loan at St. Mary’s, can be used as a makeweight to lower the price.
And now Sky Sports report that a deal is edging closer as negotiations continue. Spurs have offered £15m, though Southampton are holding out for £25m.
Tottenham target Willian told to leave Chelsea if he isn’t first choice
Spurs target Willian has been told he should leave Chelsea if he is not assured of a starting place once new signings arrive this summer.
The Brazilian’s contract expires at the end of the season and he is contemplating offers from Chelsea and other teams, with Spurs and Arsenal both reportedly interested.
Brazilian legend Rivaldo, however, has said that Willian must get assurances from Frank Lampard and determine where he stands in the Blues squad before he makes a decision on his future.
“Willian will have many interested clubs, but I think he would prefer to learn about Chelsea's plans first before taking a decision about his future," Rivaldo told Betfair.
Antonio Conte wants Spurs midfield duo
As he looks to compete with Juventus for the Serie A title, Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte reportedly wants to sign Spurs duo Tanguy Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko in an attempt to bolster his central midfield options.
Per Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness , Conte views the Spurs pair as a potential alternative to N’Golo Kante, who would be his ideal midfield signing this summer after winning the Premier League title with him at Chelsea.
Ndombele only arrived at Spurs last season in a club-record deal. However, he has fallen out with Jose Mourinho as a result of his troublesome attitude and lack of physical fitness. As such, while Spurs may be hesitant to sell him just a year after signing him, Inter could yet prise him away from north London.
The report claims that a move for Ndombele or Sissoko depends on Chelsea’s stance regarding Kante. Only should Frank Lampard be unwilling to sell the Frenchman will Conte move onto other targets.
