Tottenham evening headlines as Mourinho responds over Alli's future, Kane makes big Bale claim

Good evening, Tottenham fans. Here are your evening headlines for Sunday, September 20.

Mourinho unsure about Alli's future

After Dele Alli was left out of Tottenham’s match-day squad for the win at Southampton, Jose Mourinho was asked about the midfielder's future at the club.

“I’m not responsible for the market,” the Portuguese coach said when questioned over whether the England international could depart before the transfer window closes.

“I don't know how to answer your question in relation to that.

“The only thing I can say is that I left eight players behind. They stayed and trained this morning because they are a big group and Dele is amongst these players.

“You could see our team. I cannot start with all of them and I cannot have a bench without defenders or midfielders. In the same way, the squad is a puzzle, the bench is also a little puzzle.

“So to have on the bench Toby (Alderweireld) and Serge (Aurier), and Moussa (Sissoko) and Gio (Lo Celso), (Eric) Lamela, and (Steven) Bergwijn.

"I cannot have on the bench four wingers or three wingers and a No 10, and then no defenders.

"Everything is a puzzle so in these matches that he stayed out, probably Tuesday he will play and others he will stay out.”

Bale excited to work with Mourinho

Gareth Bale’s return to Tottenham from Real Madrid was confirmed yesterday.

The Welsh star became the world's most expensive player when he departed Spurs seven years ago but, after falling out of favour under Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu, he returned to Tottenham on loan for the 2020/21 campaign.

And Bale, who made his household reputation in north London after moving from left-back into a more offensive role, hopes to bring silverware to the club, something which has been absent for more than a decade.

He told BT Sport: “Hopefully now we can kick on this season and try and win a trophy if not two.”

Bale also highlighted the winning resume of Mourinho, stating that was a key reason for wanting to return to Spurs.

“He's (Mourinho) spoken to me about a few positions that he would like me to play and obviously I'm happy with that.

“He was a big reason for me coming back here, he's a household name and a winner. He's the perfect fit for Tottenham. We need to win trophies and he knows how to do that better than anyone.

“I know every Tottenham fan is desperate for a trophy and we'll be trying as hard as possible in every competition to do that.”

Kane excited about Spurs attack

After Tottenham scored five times in a blistering victory over Southampton, talisman Harry Kane, who claimed four assists and a goal, said he is excited to play alongside Bale and new left-back Sergio Reguilon.

“It's great to have Sergio and Gareth with us,” Kane told Sky Sports.

“It's a busy schedule over the next couple of months and we're going to need the whole squad.

“Everyone knows Gareth, how good he is – the goals and assists he gets. We have great competition for places and I'm sure he'll be excited to get back out and play for Spurs.

“Hopefully we can score five most games and keep up the winning run.”
