Tottenham evening headlines as Mourinho aims jibe at Arsenal and Man City eye Kane transfer

Here are the Tottenham evening headlines for Friday 12 March.

Mourinho doesn’t look down the table at Arsenal

Jose Mourinho has been up to his old tricks, with the Tottenham manager saying he hasn’t paid much attention to Arsenal ahead of Sunday’s north London derby.

Spurs are seventh in the Premier League with 45 points from 27 games and are three places and seven points ahead of the Gunners, who they face at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

"I look up, I don't look down,” Mourinho said when asked about the balance of power in north London.

“If Arsenal were seven points ahead of us, I would look to them, but because we have seven points more than them, I don't look down.”

He added: "I want to be respectful, I don't want to go in that direction," he said. "I'm very proud to be at Tottenham, I have the feeling every day that I work at a big club, but in spite of the rivalry between us and Arsenal I want to be respectful.

"Arsenal is a big club with a big history, a little bit like us they're trying to build a better future. I have total respect for them."

Do or die summer for Spurs

Tottenham come into the derby on the back of a comfortable 2-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the first-leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday in which Harry Kane was the star.

Kane scored both goals for Spurs and will be hoping to continue his scoring streak against Arsenal on Sunday.

The 27-year-old striker now has 26 goals for the season and Alasdair Gold believes this summer is a huge one for him and Spurs.

Kane, who turns 28 this summer, deserves silverware and Tottenham are fortunate that his price tag and contract length have prevented anyone from seriously testing the club's resolve to keep him in previous years.

Gold believes it now feels like the do or die season with Kane and Spurs. Spurs insist there is no price tag on Kane's head and that he is not for sale.

The ideal scenario for the fans is that Kane wins a trophy or two this season and is more than convinced to stay put, but the doubt remains.

Kane ‘committed’ to summer departure

Kane could be on his way to Manchester City this summer as a replacement for Sergio Aguero, according to reports.

Spanish newspaper Sport, via Sport Witness, reports that Kane is already “committed” to leaving Spurs at the end of the season.

Aguero is out of contract in the summer and has been linked to Barcelona, meaning City are on the lookout for a world-class striker.

Kane is on City’s wish list, alongside Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, according to the report.

Sport say City will “bet heavily” on Haaland joining from Dortmund, but they are “also looking” at Kane, who would command a huge transfer fee.
