Tottenham evening headlines as Milan Skriniar offer rejected, Jenas delivers Harry Kane bombshell

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur headlines for the evening of Monday August 3.

Mauricio Pochettino opens up on mistakes made at Spurs and board backing

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino opened up on the mistakes he feels he made during his time at the club and on a lack of backing from the board.

The Argentine was sacked last November and replaced by Jose Mourinho after a poor start to the 2019/20 season. Now, Pochettino has opened up on what went wrong, hinting that those in charge at the club didn’t buy into his way of thinking on certain things.

“We live in a results environment where it seems that all the things that have a good result are the ones that serve, but how do you measure what works or not?” he told El Pais .

“Only the one who wins or the one who exceeds expectations? After the Champions League final, four years in the top four, two years without signing [new players], a different management strategy was needed.

“Sometimes the vision of a coaching staff is not accepted by the club management. We anticipate what could happen. You need to fall, be down and then go up, but Tottenham made the decision to separate us after five and a half years. I understand that it is a long time.”

Harry Kane exit ‘would be best for him’ says former Spurs midfielder

Jermaine Jenas believes a departure from Tottenham Hotspur “would be best” for Harry Kane, comparing the situation the striker is in now to the one previously experienced by Gareth Bale.

Kane has been a key figure for Spurs for a number of seasons, but raised the possibility earlier this year that he could leave the club if he felt they weren’t heading in the right direction.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jenas believes Kane would be best leaving Tottenham in search of success.

“I do feel like it is a similar situation (to Gareth Bale). I love Harry, he’s one of the best strikers in Europe but I also look at his career,” he told the Daily Mail .

"I personally would encourage Harry to start having a little knock and considering another move simply from a selfish point of view as a player. Hopefully he doesn’t (leave), I really hope he is more of a mindset of what Alan Shearer which was ‘I love this club, I love being here and I want to be here for the rest of my career.’ But it’s hard for me to think without my footballer’s head on in terms of what I think would be best for him.”

Inter reject Tottenham proposal for centre back

Inter have rejected an offer from Tottenham Hotspur for Milan Skriniar, with the Serie A side looking for a cash bid for the centre bad and not a swap deal.

TMW (via the Daily Express) claim Inter have turned down a suggestion from Tottenham that a swap deal could be done which would see Skriniar head to North London in exchange for Tanguy Ndombele.

The French midfielder has been linked with a move to the San Siro having failed to make an impression since making the £60million switch to Spurs from Lyon last summer, but Inter aren’t willing to give up Skriniar to sign him.

Jose Mourinho is in need of a new central defender following the exit of Jan Vertonghen at the end of his contract.
