Here are the Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines on Sunday, May 10.
Spurs interested in Brazilian midfielder
Flamengo midfielder Gerson is reportedly being tracked by Arsenal and Spurs, according to the player’s father.
The 22-year-old is a Brazilian and South American champion, having won the Brasileirão and the Copa Libertadores with Rio de Janeiro-based Flamengo in 2019.
Gerson’s father Marcos Santos was quoted confirming Spurs’ interest, as well as enquiries from Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal, however a bid is yet to materialise.
“Nobody knew about Arsenal, but now that I’m telling you, everyone will know,” Marcos Santos told Yahoo Sports. “Everyone you hear there is true. But they only probed,” he added when asked about Dortmund and Spurs.
It has been suggested that José Mourinho may dip into the transfer market for another midfielder and Gerson could be that player. The renewed interest comes four months after Brazilian outlet O Globo reported Spurs’ initial desire to sign the player.
What Zeki Celik has said about his Lille future
LOSC Lille right-back Zeki Celik insists he is happy at the Ligue 1 club amid rumours of a switch to Tottenham.
The 23-year-old has been linked to the north London side given the club’s lack of depth at right-back this season.
The full-back gave an interview to Turkish media channel DHA about his future, in which he expressed his desire to remain at the Ligue 1 side, despite Premier League interest.
Celik said: "I have a four-year contract with my club. It is also said that there are suitors for the transfer, but I do not know.
"I am preparing for the new season and I am happy with my club."
He is contracted to the French club until June 2023.
Spurs Premier League campaign remains uncertain
The Premier League’s ‘Project Restart’ has taken another blow as three unnamed Brighton & Hove Albion players have tested positive for coronavirus.
Brighton CEO Paul Barber spoke to Sky Sports regarding his concerns over the safety of staff and players amid plans to restart the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.
Barber described the developments as, “a concern,” before going on to say: “If I can do right by my club and support the league and ultimately do right by the game as a whole, then that’s great, but I have to put the interests of my club and the hundreds of staff that work for our club first.”
Despite Spurs’ support for Project Restart, Brighton and a handful of other clubs have been vocal in opposing the Premier League’s proposed plans.
With nine games remaining, Spurs are seven points off fourth-place and are set to face Manchester United, Leicester City and Arsenal before the end of the season.
