Tottenham evening headlines as Max Aarons transfer boost received, FIFA to introduce rule change

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Sunday, June 7.

Fiorentina set to battle PSG for Spurs defender

Italian side Fiorentina are reportedly set to approach Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen, who is out of contract at the end of this month.

A report in Italian newspaper La Nazione claims the Serie A club will soon begin talks with the player.

Vertonghen has in recent weeks been linked with the likes of Inter, Napoli and Roma, but it is Fiorentina, according to La Nazione, who are best placed to secure his transfer.

They will reportedly face competition from French champions Paris Saint-Germain, who can offer the Belgium international a far more lucrative contract.

Tottenham given boost in race for Norwich youngster

Spurs have been boosted by the news that Arsenal may have been priced out of a deal for Norwich City right back Max Aarons.

The 20-year-old is expected to prove too expensive for the Gunners, according to Goal.

And that could open the door for Tottenham, who have also been linked with a move for Aarons.

Norwich reportedly value the youngster at £30m, which could also prove a stumbling block for Spurs.

But they are in clear need of a new right back following the sale of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid last summer. He has not yet been properly replaced, and Aarons could be the man Tottenham turn to.

FIFA considering introduction of salary cap that could hit Spurs

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has revealed that salary caps may be introduced in football following the coronavirus pandemic.

Clubs across the world have been impacted financially, with the widespread postponement of games leading to significant losses of income.

Even the richest clubs have been hit, and FIFA’s potential future plans could be of particular interest to Spurs and their rivals at the top of the Premier League.

“I heard some interesting proposals on a wide range of topics,” Infantino said, after asking member associations to give their views on football’s future.

“From salary caps to transfer-fee caps or other taxation mechanisms, to the possible obligation of governing bodies to contribute to a reserve fund which can be of assistance in hours of need such as now.

“Fifa is already doing a lot of work in this area, even if we face some strong vested interests who fight against our plea for better governance. These measures, projects and ideas should be discussed at all levels.

“I know that this will spark intense debate, but debate is healthy and we should speak about it as we stand together in this difficult period.”
