Tottenham evening headlines as Man United star responds to Mourinho and £1.8m bid rejected

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Wednesday September 2.

Barcelona reject Spurs bid for youth team star

Barcelona have reportedly rejected a £1.8million bid from Tottenham for highly rated B-team star Lucas De Vega.

According to reports from Diario Sport , Barcelona are willing to sell De Vega, however, they are determined to hold on for a fee closer to £3.5m, rising to £7m with add-ons.

The Brazilian-born midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell at Segunda Division B side Cartegena last season, with 17 appearances for the third-tier club.

De Vega currently has a €70m release clause at Barcelona, but Spurs could secure a deal if they increase their current offer, despite growing interest from a host of Spanish clubs ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Bruno Fernandes hits out at Jose Mourinho over penalty jibe

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has reacted sharply to Jose Mourinho’s comments that he only scores penalties.

Fernandes has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Old Trafford, following his January move from Sporting Lisbon, with eight assists and 12 goals – including eight penalties.

During an interview in July, Mourinho admitted his countryman had improved United, but quipped that he has also benefited from ‘scoring about 20 penalties’.

However, Fernandes has looked to play down the impact of Mourinho’s comments on his performances.

“I honestly did not feel stung,” he told an interview with A Bola. "I feel I am a good penalty taker and nothing more, I understand, but what I take from his [Mourinho’s] words, because I’m a very positive person, is that he said I hit penalties well.

“It is a reality, not least since I arrived at Manchester United.

“I hear people saying, ‘ah, he only scores penalty kicks’ but a while ago, I saw the statistics and, except for penalties, only Kevin De Bruyne has a higher involvement in goals than me in England as a midfielder.”

PSG to challenge Spurs for Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly joined the growing list of clubs interested in signing Spurs target Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan this summer.

The Slovakian centre back has been linked with a move to Tottenham ahead of the 2020/21 season, with Tanguy Ndombele potentially heading in the opposite direction in a swap deal.

As per a report from Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio , PSG are now considering a move for Skriniar as a replacement for Thiago Silva after he joined Chelsea last month.

Skriniar is rumoured to be valued at €70m by Antonio Conte’s side, with Manchester City, Manchester United and Barcelona also tracking with the 25-year-old.
