Tottenham evening headlines as Lloris makes classy gesture and predicted XI vs Man United

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Friday, 29 May.

How Tottenham could line up against Manchester United

While Spurs might not be involved in either of the first two Premier League games when the competition returns on June 17, their first game back is a big one.

Jose Mourinho’s side are due to take on their manager’s former employers Manchester United in the first full round of games, with the fixture having originally been scheduled for mid-March before the Premier League was suspended.

Spurs have been forced to contend with some significant injuries since Mourinho’s arrival, but now have a fully fit squad to choose from.

This means Harry Kane will likely be available up front, of course, while there’s a selection dilemma for once when it comes to the supporting cast.

We’ve assessed the options available to the Spurs boss and had a crack at determining the XI he might pick for a game which could have a big impact on the race for Champions League spots.

Spurs captain Lloris pays tribute to first ‘Hotspur Hero’

Tottenham have been honouring frontline workers during the coronavirus crisis with a ‘Hotspur Heroes’ campaign.

They have invited fans to nominate Spurs-supporting heroes whose contribution they feel deserves recognition, and NHS receptionist Danielle Morrish is the first recipient.

Morrish raised more than £2,200 for NHS charities, according to, and her reward was a video call with Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris, who showed his gratitude.

"I would like to thank you for your time, thank you for your actions,” Lloris says in video uploaded to the club’s official YouTube channel.

“It's a kind of example for all of us."

As explained on Spurs’ official site, Hotspur Heroes nominations are open to “any Spurs fans currently working on the frontline – health and social care workers, teachers, police and emergency response officers, supermarket and public transport staff, volunteers and many more who continue to fulfil essential functions, despite the difficult circumstances.”

Klinsmann optimistic over Kane’s Spurs future

After Harry Kane’s comments about his future back in March, some Spurs fans might have been worried.

However, another of the great goalscorers to play for the London club in the Premier League has given them cause to be optimistic.

“I love Spurs, I’ll always love Spurs, but it’s one of them things I’ve always said if I don’t feel like we’re progressing as a team or going in the right direction, I’m not someone to stay there just for the sake of it,” Kane said earlier in the season, prompting fears the England striker could leave before winning a major trophy with the club.

However, Jurgen Klinsmann, who scored 38 goals in 68 games for Tottenham, is confident Kane can achieve his aims at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“I keep all my fingers crossed for Spurs and for him that he can collect trophies – that’s what it is all about at the end of the day,” Klinsmann told talkSPORT.

“That’s why I left in ’95. Even though I loved it at White Hart Lane, I had to leave for Bayern Munich because I said, ‘well I’m running out of time. I’m 31 years old and I need to win a couple more trophies’.

“But he has that chance with Spurs, he has a fantastic coach, he has a fantastic team and we all keep our fingers crossed that it happens sooner rather than later.”
