Tottenham evening headlines as Kane delivers injury update, possible Mourinho and Campos reunion

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Monday, May 18.

Lille Sporting Director could be set for Mourinho reunion

LOSC Lille Sporting Director Luis Campos could be set to be reunited with Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho in the months to come after he requested to cancel his contract at the Ligue 1 club according to French outlet RMC, as reported by football.london.

The Portuguese duo worked together at Real Madrid between 2012 and 2013 where Campos was employed as a scout and Mourinho was first-team manager.

Campos is regarded as one of Europe’s top talent spotters, and has reportedly grown unhappy with recent decisions at the French club.

Tottenham behind the scenes

The former AS Monaco director of football is credited with discovering and recruiting some of Europe’s best players over the past decade, including Fabinho, Bernardo Silva and James Rodríguez.

Speaking to Sky Sports last year, Campos discussed his ‘brotherly’ relationship with Mourinho, saying: “I know him very well and for a long time. He’s a wonderful person and the best coach in the world. So, of course, if he called me I would speak.”

Spurs get Kane injury boost

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has revealed he is grateful for the additional time he has received to recover from injury due to the shutdown of English football.

Kane has been recuperating from surgery following a hamstring injury suffered at the beginning of the year and was anticipated to be sidelined for the remainder of the season, as well as possibly missing out on England’s Euro 2020 campaign, but that is no longer the case.

Following the postponement of the Premier League, Kane has been able to fully recover without missing as many games as initially feared.

"It was good just to get out and kick a ball around a little bit. I didn’t touch a ball for like six weeks, so it was great to go back and get a bit of normality back,” the England captain told talkSPORT.

"I’m just trying to take the positives from a bad situation and make the most of what’s going on."

Tottenham interest in Celtic star

Spurs are interested in signing Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer this summer, according to Norwegian outlet Sporten.

Jose Mourinho is said to be interested in the prospect of signing Ajer as a replacement for Jan Vertonghen, whose contract expires in a month’s time.

Ajer is reportedly valued at around £20million, a fee Spurs should be comfortable paying.

Celtic were today announced Scottish Premiership winners for the ninth consecutive season as clubs voted in favour of the domestic campaign coming to a premature end.

It is expected Ajer will seek a new challenge, with Spurs a likely destination.

However, the club face competition from other interested parties; Leicester City and AC Milan are also in the race for the Norwegian’s signature.
