Tottenham evening headlines as Jose Mourinho hints at transfer plans, Levy stunned by Dier

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Friday, July 10.

Levy surprised by Dier’s wage demands

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has balked at Eric Dier’s wage demands, according to the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old reportedly wants more than double his current salary of £60,000 a week when he signs a new contract at the club.

Dier has just 12 months remaining on his current deal, but has become a favourite of Jose Mourinho, regularly starting under the Portuguese coach.

The former Sporting player, who has operated as both a defender and midfielder for Tottenham, wants a pay rise to bring him closer to the salaries of his highest paid teammates.

But the financial situation following the Covid-19 pandemic could make the situation difficult, despite Mourinho’s good relationship with Dier.

Mourinho hints at summer transfer plans after Bournemouth draw

Mourinho has suggested there are no plans to bring in any attacking players this summer.

Tottenham failed to break down a Bournemouth team with one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League on Thursday night, leaving the Vitality Stadium with a disappointing 0-0 draw.

But Mourinho backed his forwards, insisting there is no need to strengthen in that area.

“Our attacking players are very good,” he said. “We cannot get better players than what we have. One thing is not scoring goals and the other is that the players are not good enough.

“They are good enough. I don't want to replace my players.”

Davies gives verdict on Ndombele’s cameo at Bournemouth

Spurs left-back Ben Davies said Tanguy Ndombele's appearance from the bench against Bournemouth was encouraging.

The Frenchman has been at the centre of speculation over the last few months, with rumours of a rift between him and manager Mourinho.

He was introduced at half-time at Bournemouth and looked sharp, despite Tottenham’s failure to score against the out-of-form Cherries.

“I think Tanguy can help, I think he did well when he came on,” Davies said.

“That's what we have to do, really. In games like that when it's a bit flat, you need players to come in and try to change the game.

“Try things and look lively. I think he did that for us last night and a couple of better balls and he might have had a goal or assist himself.”
