Here are the Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Sunday, June 28.
On-loan Spurs defender impressing in Championship
US international defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is making waves in the Championship with struggling Luton Town.
The 22-year-old has received plaudits from newly-installed Hatters boss Nathan Jones.
"Cam’s is a good athlete, he’s a good defender and I took him at Stoke after the injury to Ryan Shawcross," he said.
Jones worked with Carter-Vickers at Stoke City earlier in the campaign before joining up with the American once again at Kenilworth Road a few weeks ago.
The praise comes after another impressive display against play-off chasing Swansea City. Luton kept a clean sheet as they defeated the Swans 1-0, with Carter-Vickers playing the full 90 minutes.
The centre-back has played 21 games in the Championship this season and overseen an upturn in form for Luton, presiding over a handful of draws and narrow victories.
His contract at Spurs expires in 12 months’ time but he could be on the radar of a number of Championship clubs this summer, given his experience in the second tier with Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, Swansea, Stoke and Luton.
Atalanta defender wants Spurs move
Belgian full-back Timothy Castagne has expressed his desire to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
In an interview with La Derniere Heure , Castagne described how he feels “the time has come to move on.”
Speaking to the Belgian outlet, Castagne added: “When a team like PSG or Tottenham come knocking on your door, you can't say 'no'."
The 24-year-old enjoyed his footballing education at KRC Genk, renowned for developing young players, but currently plays for high-flying Serie A outfit Atalanta.
Castagne has featured 16 times in Serie A for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side this season and is a current Belgian international.
With uncertainty over Serge Aurier’s future and José Mourinho’s faith in the Ivorian wavering, a summer move for a right-back of Castagne’s calibre and experience could be in the offing.
Zidane favourite in line for Spurs switch
Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Vázquez has been touted for a potential link-up with former Madrid manager José Mourinho at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The 28-year-old was yet to fully break into the first-team setup at Santiago Bernabéu during Mourinho’s tenure, but the Portuguese is said to be keen on bringing him to North London in a cut-price deal, according to the Daily Mirror.
Vázquez’s contract expires in June 2021 and current Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has a wealth of younger attacking options to choose from. This summer could present the Frenchman with his last opportunity to sell the Spanish winger for a fee.
Brazilian duo Rodrygo and Vinícius Júnior have emerged as potential replacements over the past two seasons and have gone from strength-to-strength flanking the evergreen Karim Benzema in La Liga.
A multiple UEFA Champions League winner, Vázquez could bring a winning mentality to the Spurs squad.
