Here are your Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Friday, September 11.
Mourinho issues crucial transfer update as striker targeted
Jose Mourinho believes that the club will be able to sign a new striker before next month’s deadline.
Despite adding genuine first team quality in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty, Spurs are in desperate need for a back-up striker to Harry Kane.
When asked about the matter in his pre-match press conference, the Spurs boss provided a positive update after being linked with several players including Patson Daka of Red Bull Salzburg.
"Yes, I want, I need a striker, but I want to make it very, very clear that the club – the structure above me – knows that I need a striker and also wants a striker," he said.
"Are we going to get one? I honestly believe so. For the balance of the squad, the team needs it because at this moment the squad is getting very balanced, with different options for different positions.”
Rose update issued by Mourinho amid Genoa transfer links
Danny Rose is free to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in this transfer window.
That is according to Mourinho who stated that the left-back can leave amid links with Serie A side Genoa.
He said: "If Genoa gets Danny Rose, I think they get a good player.
"If they get a good player in the last year of his contract, I think they’re in a privileged position to do a good deal for them. And if Danny Rose goes there, I wish him all the best.
"It’s one of the things that was very clear to you that you could learn from one of the Amazon bits is that Danny is the kind of guy who wants to play all the time.
"Some players are more adapted to belong to a squad with lots of quality where the competition is higher. Other players are only happy if they're in a club where they play all the time.”
Mourinho and Klopp agree on Chelsea’s transfer power
Mourinho agreed with Jurgen Klopp’s statement about Chelsea in the transfer window when asked on Friday afternoon.
The Liverpool manager noted earlier this week that very few clubs can spent to the same extent as Chelsea who have signed several top assets this summer.
And Mourinho has echoed those sentiments on the eve of the new Premier League season.
He said: “The other day Jurgen was saying Liverpool wasn’t a club of oligarchs and a club that belongs to countries.
“We are the same. So we are not the kind of club that can go to the market and spend a fortune on players.
“We are all working hard, I want to make it very, very clear, to get good balance and that good balance would be to get one more striker.”
