Tottenham evening headlines as Harry Kane's true value revealed and Mourinho wants Giroud deal

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines on Saturday 13th June.

Alderweireld not giving up on Champions League

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has stated the club have not given up on qualifying for the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League.

Spurs are currently in 8th place ahead of the Premier League restart and face Manchester United in their first game back in action.

Belgian international Alderweireld believes the three-month break in play will not have hindered Spurs’ chances at chasing a top four spot.

He says the break cannot be described as a “holiday” for the players, with training just as demanding as it would have been without the stoppage in regular fixtures.

Deloitte predicts Premier League clubs will lose £1bn revenue this season

Spurs would have been without the likes of Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and Steven Bergwijn had the season carried on as normal in March. However, the attacking trio are now back in full training and ready for action, no doubt bettering Spurs’ chances.

Kane valued at over £100 million

Spurs striker Harry Kane has been valued at €118.7 million according to the latest valuations from the CIES Football Observatory .

The England striker is tenth on CIES’ list, behind four other Englishmen: Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Raheem Sterling.

There are nine Premier League players listed in the top fifteen highest-valued players, with 25-year-old Kane listed tenth. He remains ahead of Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino, Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus and Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Erling Haaland.

Kane has a contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2023 and remains one of Europe’s premium strikers, despite supposedly being worth €30 million less than his 2019 valuation.

Mourinho eyeing Giroud link-up, says Phillips

Former Chelsea boss José Mourinho could target Blues striker Olivier Giroud for Spurs this summer. The Tottenham manager will however face stiff competition from Internazionale and Lazio, according to the Daily Express .

Mourinho was most recently Chelsea manager between 2013 and 2015, and could sign the veteran French striker to bolster his attacking options at Spurs, according to former England striker Kevin Phillips.

He believes that with the introduction of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, and Hakim Ziyech from AFC Ajax, Frank Lampard is putting together a new-look, youthful Chelsea side that could see Giroud pushed further down the pecking order.

Giroud has seen much of his action for Chelsea this season come from the bench, behind England international Tammy Abraham in Lampard’s plans.

A cross-London move to play a similar role with rivals Spurs may be on the cards with the club in the market for a back-up striker following last summer’s departure of Fernando Llorente.
