Tottenham evening headlines as Gary Lineker gives VAR verdict and Man United join striker race

Here are your Spurs evening headlines for Sunday, September 27.

Mourinho on Dier penalty incident

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho refused to be drawn in on discussing the controversial penalty incident that went against his side on Sunday.

Eric Dier’s handball in injury-time allowed Callum Wilson to convert from the penalty spot and seal a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

When asked about his views on the penalty incident in his post-match press conference, Mourinho said : “I don’t want to comment, I just don’t want to."

A similar situation had aggrieved Roy Hodgson and Crystal Palace on Saturday, leading to Mourinho pointing out the respect he has for the Palace boss.

“Mr Roy [Hodgson] is our boss, the man with more experience, the man with the age, the man in the Premier League I always consider the eldest one, the boss, he has the status, the knowhow, respected by everyone. I live on him.”

Former players react to controversial penalty

Gary Lineker, Jermaine Jenas and other former players all took to social media as they made their voices heard on the incident.

By the laws of the game, Dier’s handball was rightfully adjudged to be awarded a penalty. However, those laws have come into question on a number of occasions.

Match of the Day presenter and former player Lineker tweeted : “Ludicrous. Utterly ludicrous law exacerbated by VAR. Can we have our game back please?”

Meanwhile, Jenas stated : “The @premierleague has been such an amazing product for so many years and we have officially lost it now! I feel like the players, managers, clubs need to take a firm stance now to get our game back.”

United lead Spurs in race to sign Milik

Spurs are reportedly set to face competition in their pursuit of Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik.

According to reports in Italy, cited by Metro, who claim that Manchester United have entered the race to sign the Poland international.

The 26-year-old is believed to be in talks with the Red Devils over a potential move, having been closely monitored by Spurs throughout this transfer window.

Milik is understood to be one of several options on a shortlist as Spurs look to find a viable back-up option to Harry Kane.
