Here are the Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Wednesday, August 12.
AC Milan £9m short of Tottenham valuation in Serge Aurier transfer talks
Tottenham and AC Milan remain £9million apart in their negotiations for Serge Aurier, according to the Evening Standard.
Aurier, 27, joined Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 but has struggled to convince in North London. Milan are keen on ending the player’s time with the Lilywhites but have so far only been willing to put up £13million to make that happen.
Spurs are keen sellers, but the report states they value him at around £22million, closer to the £23million fee they paid for him.
The Evening Standard also state that Mourinho is targeting Lille’s Zeki Celik as a replacement for the Ivorian. The Spurs boss is in the market for a right-back after selling Kyle Walker-Peters to Southampton earlier this week.
Spurs planning summer firesale
Tottenham will sanction a firesale that could see seven players depart the club this summer in an attempt to raise funds, according to Football Insider.
Jose Mourinho is keen to overhaul his squad this summer and is eyeing competition for Hugo Lloris as well as a new striker, right-back, and centre-back.
The report states that any incomings must be met with departures with Daniel Levy unwilling to hand the manager a blank cheque book.
Juan Foyth, Danny Rose and Cameron Carter-Vickers are all up for consideration as well as Serge Aurier, who is believed to be in talks with Milan.
Gareth Bale’s former Tottenham teammate claims he wants to seal return from Real Madrid
Gareth Bale would happily return to Tottenham, according to a former teammate Andros Townsend.
Bale is on the periphery at current club Real Madrid and had been tentatively discussed as returning to North London.
He turned down the opportunity to travel with the Los Blancos squad to face Manchester City as he felt he would only be an unused substitute. The Spanish giants are desperate to sell the attacker although reports state that he is happy to see out the remainder of his contract.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Townsend, who is now with Crystal Palace, claimed Bale’s happy memories with Spurs would fuel his desire to return.
“I think if anything the Bale situation, he’d want to go back to Spurs,” he said.
“The memories of Spurs. His happiness.
“He was the main man. He was loved. He was at the top of his game. So, if anything I think it would work the other way.
“He would be like ‘I wish I was at Spurs now and had the freedom to do whatever I want.
“To express myself and not worry about where I am now where I get scrutinised for playing golf.’”
