Tottenham evening headlines as fresh injury concern emerges, Reguilon praises Mourinho intensity

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur headlines for Tuesday, November 10.

Bergwijn pulls out of Netherlands squad

Steven Bergwijn has pulled out of the Netherlands squad, giving Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho another injury concern.

The 23-year-old has returned to London after undergoing an examination from the Dutch national team medical staff, with the winger suffering from an unspecified fitness issue.

Netherlands will take on Spain in a friendly on Wednesday night before facing Bosnia and Poland in back-to-back UEFA Nations League fixtures, but Bergwijn won’t play a part for Frank de Boer’s side.

Bergwijn has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham this season, with Mourinho currently favouring other options.

Reguilon impressed with Mourinho intensity

Spurs summer signing Sergio Reguilon has praised Mourinho for the way he has taken the former Real Madrid left-back under his wing.

Reguilon has enjoyed a good start to life in north London since arriving from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, with Spurs currently sitting second in the Premier League table.

The £28 million defender revealed Mourinho isn’t always as stern as appears from the outside, highlighting how the former Chelsea, Inter, Manchester United, Porto and Real Madrid boss was someone he has admired from a young age.

“Mourinho impressed me a lot,” he told El Chiringuito. “Since I was kid I really liked him, I like his intensity in training. I would like it if people saw him as I see him now.

"He is the first to be serious and ask more from us but when it's time to fool around, he is also the first.”

Mourinho has settled midfield thanks to Guardiola

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg suffered a difficult start to life at Tottenham but has quickly rebounded to become a key figure for the north London side in recent weeks.

The Danish midfielder has taken his game to a new level since making the move from Southampton in the summer with the £15 million paid by Spurs for the player now representing a bargain, as discussed further here by Rob Guest.

Hjojbjerg has become the perfect figure for Mourinho’s midfield unit, yet it was the Portuguese coach's long-time rival Pep Guardiola, of all people, that played a key role in turning the Dane into the player he is today.

Hojbjerg was developed by Guardiola during his time at Bayern Munich, with the Catalan coach believing he had found the ‘Sergio Busquets of Bayern’ in the Danish midfielder before he left for Southampton.
