Tottenham evening headlines as Dele Alli return pathway is revealed and Botman transfer priority

Here are your Tottenham evening headlines for Monday February 8, 2021.

Dele Alli pathway

Dele Alli's return to the Tottenham first-team picture could be imminent.

The 24-year-old is expected to recover from his tendon injury this week and Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho has already spoken about Ndombele's huge improvements in fitness and tactical responsibility.

This means the Frenchman can now be trusted in a deeper midfield role and won't be in competition with Alli for the number 10 role behind the returning Harry Kane.

And one major talking point from the 2-0 win over West Brom was the 4-2-3-1 formation on Sunday afternoon as it provides the pathway for Alli to come back into the fold.

With games coming thick and fast over the next month, opportunities will arrive for Alli to play regularly and in his favoured position, but will he grab the chance with both hands?

Botman is the answer

Lille's Sven Botman should be a player of interest to Tottenham, having developed significantly over the course of the past two years.

Still just 21 years-old, the Dutch defender doesn't quite have experience on his side, but his defensive traits seem ideally suited to what Mourinho requires in north London.

Standing 6-foot-3, Botman is very well-built and as a consequence, he's able to dominate many opponents.

This season, he's contested 110 battles in the air and won 77 of them, leaving him with a high win percentage of 70%.

His aerial dominance would benefit Spurs greatly once they retreat into a defensive block, and such a tactic would help Botman by masking his weaknesses, as he's not the most mobile and struggles to change direction at speed.

Son stat

As pointed out by Spurs fans on Reddit, Son Heung-min's goalscoring record is something to be proud of.

The South Korea international was on target against West Brom, taking his tally to 13 for the season in the Premier League and is now just two behind leading scorer Mohamed Salah.

However, unlike the Liverpool star, not one of Son's goals have been from the penalty spot.

In terms of open play goals in the Premier League this season, Son is joint-top with Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin, although as pointed out by one supporter, the latter doesn't contribute in terms of assists.

yeahnoobviously said: "Tbf, it's same as DCL. Tho he never assisted in league games this season unlike Sonny who assisted 6."

Meanwhile, Harry Kane has 10 open play goals to his name in the Premier League.
