Tottenham evening headlines as Dele Alli hint dropped and Europa League squad decided

Here are the Tottenham evening headlines for Wednesday, February 3rd.

Dele Alli hint

Jose Mourinho has hinted that Dele Alli will work his way back into the Tottenham squad when speaking ahead of the clash against Chelsea.

The England international was not able to seal a mid-season exit, amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain, and faces a fight to work his way back into the Spurs side - but Mourinho has left the door open for him.

"We play Europa League very soon and we're playing a couple of Premier League matches every week. We have the FA Cup – I don't believe he'll be on time for that one.

"We have a final to play in April. So we need a good Dele back and I believe that when he's physically ready, he'll be in a good place mentally to go for it."

Europa League squad decision

Jose Mourinho has named his 25-man squad for the knockout stages of the Europa League, with a significant omission yet again.

With no arrivals in the January transfer window, Tottenham have not taken the opportunity to add any new players to their squad.

The only change to the previous squad was the removal of Jack Clarke, who has joined Stoke City on loan until the end of the season.

However, centre-back Joe Rodon remains out of the squad and has not been drafted in ahead of the Round of 32 clash against Wolfsberg.

Hoddle slams Aurier

Tottenham favourite Glenn Hoddle has issued a damning verdict on Serge Aurier, stating that the Ivorian will always let down Jose Mourinho's side.

Aurier has been in and out of the starting XI in 2021, with the right-back's occasional, and damaging, defensive lapses making it hard for Mourinho to give him a consistent run.

“I’m sorry, but at the end of the day, if that’s the attitude a player has – and I’m not saying Aurier, it’s happened at other clubs – you’re carrying them," Hoddle said on his podcast, 'The Glenn Hoddle Footy Show'.

“They’re not strong enough characters and in the end they’ll let you down. I think that’s how the manager will look at it.”
