Tottenham evening headlines as Daniel Levy £175m plan praised and Mourinho wants Raul Jimenez

Here are your Tottenham evening headlines on Tuesday, June 9.

How youngsters fit Mourinho’s plans

Spurs have a number of talented youngsters coming through the ranks and a number have featured in Jose Mourinho’s training sessions ahead of the Premier League restart.

Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold reports that three starlets in particular have been involved, looking at what role could lie ahead for them.

George Marsh’s tenacity and versatility marks him out as an option off the bench, says Gold, while Harvey White has already seen first-team action, albeit in pre-season.

Dennis Cirkin has impressed in the UEFA Youth League and he is another who could benefit enormously from an expanded bench when competitive action resumes.

Spurs will be allowed to bring on five of nine named substitutes, leaving plenty more room for Mourinho to pick promising youngsters as part of his matchday squad without compromising on the established quality available to turn to.

Daniel Levy’s “smart” financial move

Tottenham chief Daniel Levy has taken out a £175 million loan for the club as he looks to protect the business against any shortfall in income.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan says he entirely understands the move and thinks it’s the right approach, given the fixed outgoings Spurs have after the building of their new stadium.

Speaking on TalkSport, Jordan explained Levy’s decision in terms of a refinancing approach.

“Tottenham have got various levels of borrowing financing that particular development, and what Daniel is doing is taking slices of borrowing and replacing some borrowing with different borrowing, and rebooting it in a more economic way,” he said.

“It’s as smart as paint what he’s doing. He’s basically saying if I’ve got a ticket out there for £500m at six per cent and I can borrow from the government with a 0.5 per cent interest rate, thank you very much I’ll take a slice of that.

“I tried to do something with Daniel offering some finance to him for a season ticket reimbursement, so I know that’s what he’s doing.”

Raul Jimenez on Mourinho’s wanted list

Tottenham have been searching for the perfect player in attack for a number of years: someone who can play alongside Harry Kane at times, or fill in for him as the sole striker when needed.

After some low-cost failures, some gambles which didn’t pay off and some established veterans who couldn’t quite produce when called upon on an irregular basis, the latest rumours suggest a different approach altogether.

While not the most reliable outlet, Football Insider claims a “source” has confirmed that Jose Mourinho is a massive fan of Wolves striker Raul Jimenez and the Mexican is a player Spurs would break their planned summer approach of free transfers and loans for.

The 29-year-old is rated at more than the £30m Wolves paid for him from Benfica.
