Tottenham evening headlines as Bale makes fitness admission, Ndombele redemption opportunity

Good evening, Tottenham fans. Here are your evening headlines for Sunday, October 25.

Bale makes admission over form and fitness

Gareth Bale has admitted he is still short of match sharpness after making his second full debut for Tottenham in Thursday night’s Europa League win over LASK.

The Welshman, on loan from Real Madrid, started for the first time this season as Spurs recorded a comfortable 3-0 win.

And Bale was the creator of his side’s second goal, seeing a cross diverted into the net by LASK defender Andres Andrade.

“It’s great to be back, especially starting a game. It has been a while for me, at club level,” Bale said.

“It’s going to take me a little bit of time to get my match fitness and sharpness going. It’s just another game towards the process of getting fitter, sharper, quicker.

“I just enjoyed being out there playing football — that’s what makes me happy. It was a professional performance.

“These games can be difficult, if you don’t take them seriously, but we took it very seriously.”

Ndombele to return to setting of Spurs nadir

Tanguy Ndombele will soon be back at the stadium where he reached his lowest point as a Tottenham player.

Spurs travel to Burnley on Monday night, with the French midfielder now back in the starting XI and performing well.

But things were different last term as Ndombelle was hauled off at half time in a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.

At that point, it seemed like it might be the end for the former Lyon man, who was clearly out of favour under Jose Mourinho.

The Spurs boss was openly critical of the player, but Ndombele has been revitalised this season.

He will hope things go a little better against Burnley this time, too.

Tottenham fans react to Pochettino rumours

Spurs fans have reacted to speculation that Real Madrid want to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager.

Zinedine Zidane had come under pressure after back-to-back defeats against Cadiz and Shakhtar Donetsk, although a 3-1 win in El Clasico this weekend will have shifted the mood.

But Spanish outlet El Transistor claims Real Madrid have made contact with Pochettino, who has been out of a job since being dismissed by Spurs in November last year.

And Tottenham supporters have taken to Twitter to give their views on the news, with one writing: “Would love for this to happen for him. So surprised he still hasn’t got himself a club yet.

"I wish he has all the success he deserves. Once he’s got that trophy-winning experience I’d love for him to come back, one day!”

Another added: “All the best for him! Thankfully it's not Man Utd.”
